bruz : ombilicum / side effects : ambient material + music from the magnificent unknowns.
Here i'll write on music found over there in the cloud, material, vst plugs, ways of recording, mixing in the field of ambient music, experimental, new age, cinematic, drone sort of thing. + Every week-end, you'll find 2 tracks from artists that spend their timetransforming sounds into language (woaw).

my week-end ambient pick #38 : New Watercolour Society

This is as quiet and still as yesterday's pick was moving all over. a short and harmonious mix of noise, reverse, field, hiss, grumbling, overdrive, probably some processed live.
I have no info at all on NWCS, don't know who they are or anything. Label is Cathedral Transmissions though.

my week-end ambient pick #37 : Hologram

I just can't say why but this track manages to get into my brain and provokes a big weird something there. Something close to hypnosis. To specialists, the tune is a reference since the 98's. I'm no specialist and i've just stumbled upon this. Time travel exists...

Laurie Spiegel

".../... and I soon began to work with that instrument myself, music turned back into the medium I had loved. In fact it went far beyond that, virtually turning from black-and-white into color. Not only could I work directly with sound itself again, like painters and authors do on their works, instead of indirectly encapsulating them in abstract sets of instructions to others in an imperfect notational language, but also, I was able at last to represent the tenuous and vague sonic shapes that formed in my imagination and in which my inner emotions had always taken previously inexpressible form."

Laurie SPIEGEL is one of the computer generated music pionneers of the late 70's. She's done amazing pieces and still does. In fact, she actually does much more than music, if you want to try to get some bits of this :

my week-end ambient pick #36 : Placement & Kuroi Mori

Here comes Placement again, for a collaboration with japenese artist Kuroi mori (Hiroki Furutani). To be released one of these days. As usual, nothing more to say, i just love everything they do. The percussion and guitars coming up just perfectly suits their work here. Voices too, all over the place.

my week-end ambient pick #35 : Offthesky & Pillow garden

We've met Offthesky here before. On this particular project "A dream in a dream", he meets Sarah Chung (Pillow Garden) who uses all kinds of little unexpected instruments to get sounds from. Though it is not that clear on this track that 2 works are entertwined before minute 6, it gets obvious on track #2 that you can find here : http://music.audiogourmet.co.uk/album/a-dream-in-a-dream (album is free download).

Have a nice peaceful saturday morning.

my week-end ambient pick #34 : Ten & Tracer

I love those tunes when there's a purring kind of gentle bed and micro events coming up over it.
the guy is from Colorado and has done an amazing number of works already (http://www.discogs.com/artist/Ten+And+Tracer ) ! Some can be downloaded from his site, others can be bought.

site is here : http://www.tenandtracer.com/

ps : you may find the end of the track somewhat abrupt; that's because the tracks on the album are linked together, so the end of #2 is the beginning of #3.

my week-end ambient pick #33 : Paper Relics

Remember Spheruleus a few weeks ago ? well the guy is here too, with his brother this time for a folky tranquil line of sound and mobement. Same label as Fabio Orsi's, that place where they make CD sleeves as amazing as the music they propose.
check this : http://timereleasedsound.com/releases/paper-relics/ (the second tune is as nice as the 1st one.)

my week-end ambient pick #32 : IveLost

IVELOST. The guy is from Portland, Oregon, i have no further info. It's mainly guitar with effects and is played so softly that you would think the guy plays with a feather.
check out other tunes here : http://soundcloud.com/ivelost
there's an absolute masterpiece, 16-minute long here : http://soundcloud.com/ivelost/absence

update : "Absence" is actually part of the "Dissociative Fugue" album that you can get here :  http://feedbacklooplabel.blogspot.com/2010/07/fbl005-ive-lost-dissociative-fugue.html

my week-end ambient pick #31 : Letna

From SEM label (Paris), we had stumbled upon the Green Kingdom a few weeks ago. Here comes Letna, with this beautiful 11-piece album : ADRIA, full of delicate & delicious moments. I like it when experimental combinations of sounds bring up emotion. check whole album here : http://shop.semlabel.com/album/adria
