bruz : ombilicum / side effects : ambient material + music from the magnificent unknowns.
Here i'll write on music found over there in the cloud, material, vst plugs, ways of recording, mixing in the field of ambient music, experimental, new age, cinematic, drone sort of thing. + Every week-end, you'll find 2 tracks from artists that spend their timetransforming sounds into language (woaw).

x-mas vst freebies

Giving time it seems. While some big companies send you mail with "we love you, get 5€ off your next order* (*if you buy any product over 500€) , some really GIVE you something free :

Soniccouture for instance here : http://www.soniccouture.com/en/products/p138-glisten/

which makes an x-mas bells kind of sound that you can turn into a devilish tube nightmare or any other kind of aletred sound with the knobs all over. Nice one.

8DIO too : http://8dio.com/?btp_product=glass-marimba

that goes :

isn't that so cool.

weap 78 : plateaux

[quote] PLATEAUX is beautiful high-altitude, unearthly ambient soundscapes, an audiovisual project founded by London-based musician and producer Oskar Vizan and visual artist Soichi Matsumoto.
So now you know.
a bit later on they say : a mind-blowing album that will smash some musical preconcepts to pieces.
that's when i stopped reading

bruz 111111 : turn to brown

There's my new contribution to the ONE DAY ON EARTH yearly project : composing, mixing and releasing a track in one day on 11.11.11.

below is the one done on 10.10.10 last year :

11/13/2011

11.11.11. work in process

still working on the editing of the video for the One Day On Earth project. Nearly done.

11/10/2011

11.11.11. new ordeal

06:00 on 11.11.11. of course this year's objective would be to reach more and more people and conscience over the world. Well we all know that the big modern religion is money and that it crusades everyday to get more land. There's no secularism in that field, on the contrary. We also knwow that a massive gathering of voices can bend a king. So it's sreaming time once more. Let us build up billions of whispers today, if only to unleash our secret storms to blow in the face of the mighty ones.

11/05/2011

weap 75 Krusseldorf

from Stockholm, SW, new release from label Aleph Zero, sort of Idm Lounge work though this one track is more on the creepy side of the moon.

some time ago there were 3 Weap from me over here. I thought i had missed one. so I added one. Now i did miss one yesterday. So we're even.

10/29/2011

weap 74 : Sonmi451

it seems i might be beginning to make circles am i ? Stumbled upon this guy again - it was W.e.a.p #55 here  .
Still  a very relevant choice as we've been changing time again. I see this is 05:00 a.m. now. but i'm wrong as it is in fact 04:00 a.m. which lets me think i shouldn't be a w a k e at all.
what's the link with Mr451 ? well this track was released on TimeReleased Sound label, see ?
Anyway, enjoy your free hour of life as i am now.

weap 73 : Kevin McInnis

What Could Have Been by Kevin MacInnis

that one is totally unexpectable, it's almost like a David Lynch movie scene without the movie, a bit scary at some point. No more info on Mr McInnis, 3 tracks on the soundcloud page, all different sorts.

10/23/2011

weap 72 : Digitonal

by digitonal

Must have missed a day. maybe not in the mood. let's say this is sunday, unexisting sunday stolen from my libre arbitre.
A very particular mix of cinematic, ambient and electronica, from London.

10/22/2011

weap 71 : Aech Rom

Sleep Machine

not much info here either on that guy who seems to be moving between Geneva and London. there's a very pleasant track anyway, part of a 5-track you can get from bandcamp or label site Complex Sound Sagacity.
Other works on Soundcloud . Really sensitive work which will undoubtedly grow more complex in the near future.

10/21/2011

weap 70 : silent strike

 Silent Strike

The guy's from Romania and has some particularly tricky drum sequence patterns there ! As he works for films too, his different tracks are quite different one from the other, sometimes over processed even, but always rhythmically surprising.

many links on soundcloud page.
there's also a cool ambient/lounge album to download free here : http://soundcloud.com/silentstrike

label is LaStrada

10/15/2011

weap 69 : 2 people in a room

Two People In A Room

Not much info save that this long 9-minute-track comes from Berlin, Germany. There's a page there : http://acrashateveryspeed.tumblr.com/ with links to links and links to more links. there's a René in there, and a Michelle, and a pillow.

10/14/2011

weap 68 : great skies

still from label FENCE, there's a very cool one with bits of vocals scattered around and some sort of a happy something that lingers on.

10/08/2011

weap 67 : reporter

don't know if Reporter is still active / could trace to a lastfm page thah led to a myspace one where news are from sept. 2010. Anyway, this "Guggenheim" album is a very peaceful set of 5 tracks that just flow through the place here as autumn is definitely back in its well known clothes.

10/07/2011

weap 66 : spheruleus is back

Spheruleus: Set Sail

Already had a post on that mysterious multinamed guy Spheruleus back in May 2011 for the Kanshin project, remember ? Well the sailor is back on a boat today with new project "VOYAGE". Slow motion moments ahead as autumn breezes in.

9/23/2011

weap 62 : arbee

A rather mysterious work from a mysterious guy from Canada (i assume). this track and the rest of the album that comes with it show a clinical precision in the making. It looks bare but only because everything is in its right place.

album is available as a "name your price" download (click "download" in the player.

9/17/2011

weap 61 : splitter

weap 60 : c.db.sn

by c.db.sn
Amazing rhythm programming nuts this Denver guy is ! Chase Dobson is the name, check soundcloud page for other loony tracks. it's like Aliens playing nujazz in 2056 on planet uranus while we sit hypnotized on a bubble couch with our integrated dreamscape channel glasses on, sipping a translucid blue drink called moonbeam ,

guy has a blog too : http://cdbsn.wordpress.com/

ombilicum : week-end ambient pick (weap) #60 : c.db.sn

9/11/2011

VST plug : HGsound ARP

ARP is an advanced Polyphonic Arp and Note Sequencer with Scale Remapping for powerful sequencing possibilities. Sequences can be re-mapped based on the played note so for example a sequence can be forced to fit to the major scale. The idea behind this is to break away from the typical note sequencer where every key simply transposes the sequence, the ability to remap each note results in a much more creative sequence.

9/10/2011

weap 59 : Knopfdreher

Knopfdreher

this one is a weirdo from Berlin, though living in Madrid. must have crossed France to get there and went loony during the trip. tracks are a very bizarre combination of cool deep ambient lines and totally unpredictable percussions movements. reminds me of some old Japan material at moments. bizarre is the word.

9/09/2011

weap 58 : The Next Commuter

Last Shadow Puppets  by The Next Commuter
guy is from Belgium and mainly uses guitars and field recording. This is his most recent work but the older ones are just as good. Find these on Soundcloud. Really cool slow track to step away from sleep.
http://soundcloud.com/thenextcommuter

weap #57 C418

Funny kind of Green creature this C418. Guy is from Germany and as far as i could get, undergroundly known as composer for the game Minecraft which i don't know anything about as i'm a dull person.
Whole album "72 minutes of Fame" is brilliant with impressive diversity, the common point between tracks being the quality of sound treatment and subtlety of fx used. woaw i'm writing a proper review am i ?get out.

check : http://c418.tumblr.com/

9/02/2011

weap #56 : gustavo lamas

Mas by Gustavo Lamas

From Buenos Aires, Argentina a famous producer over there it seems. Quite a nice revolving track settling softly into the room, filling the space. saturday morning, rainy again.

8/27/2011

weap #55 : sonmi451

Sonmi451 - Alpha Centauri

The guy is from Belgium and offers what i've seen called a  minimalist approach to electronic manipulation of sound that i've seen called Electro. check out Blog for news.
Guy also wrote a special track "HELDER" as a slow musical ceremony to the memory of those who died in the Pukkelpop Festival last week. You may download that one free.

other material available on beautiful label : timereleasedsound  (.com)/

weap #54 : cyrus reynolds

A Monument to Thought by Cyrus Reynolds

no particular info on Mr Reynolds except that he's from the UK and that he also writes for films.
funny how the sound of rain immediately creates some kind of nostalgia and peace too.

8/20/2011

weap #53 the american dollar

quite a funny name for a band, isn't it ? well these are from NY, big apple, US. been around for some time now, call themselves postrock ambient. Maybe Eno would call this Music For Airport. they usually build up around a revolving piano riff that becomes thicker and thicker, then bursts out with all that rock n'roll material (drums, power chords and all...). Quite cool stuff.

check whole thing here : http://theamericandollar.bandcamp.com
i recommand "A Memory Stream", best so far i think.

8/19/2011

weap #52 simulated systems

this is not properly "ambient" i know. they call it IDM.
Inside da Mind ? not far ... that's Intelligent Dance Music. Woaw. thing is some dance is just a series of
BumpTSS - BumpTSS - BumpTSS - BumpTSS ...
So IDM would be more like Bump fzz weeee TSTS stststststs TSTSTS ffff rtrtrtrtrtrtrtrtr Bump
see ? ...

just like you, I Don't Mind.
guy is from Portugal. Check whole album there : http://simulatedsystems.bandcamp.com/album/stages
He also has cooler, slow things around.

my week-end ambient pick #50 : Oistat

OISTAT Sound Working Group: World Listening Day July 18th. 2011

on july 18th this year, these guys from O.i.s.t.a.t. (Organisation Internationale des scénographes, Techniciens et Architectes de Théâtre) decided to record 2 minutes of their day starting at a particular hour. the result is 24x2 minutes of sound from the world. weird. unlike usually, i'll leave the whole set of tracks this time, cos' it's even weirder as it goes on.

8/06/2011

my week-end ambient pick #49 : syros

7/09/2011

my week-end ambient pick #42 : Nitin Garg

  Nitin Garg

Mr Garg from New Delhi, India, is mainy a graphic designer. Once in a while though, he composes music that he calls "sound exercises". Well, if this is exercise, i can't wait for an actual work.

check ; http://schematic.net/echelon/

6/25/2011

my week-end ambient pick #38 : New Watercolour Society

This is as quiet and still as yesterday's pick was moving all over. a short and harmonious mix of noise, reverse, field, hiss, grumbling, overdrive, probably some processed live.
I have no info at all on NWCS, don't know who they are or anything. Label is Cathedral Transmissions though.

6/24/2011

my week-end ambient pick #37 : Hologram

I just can't say why but this track manages to get into my brain and provokes a big weird something there. Something close to hypnosis. To specialists, the tune is a reference since the 98's. I'm no specialist and i've just stumbled upon this. Time travel exists...
http://holografique.tumblr.com/

and there's the original vinyl version, if you want to dive back in

6/22/2011

Laurie Spiegel

".../... and I soon began to work with that instrument myself, music turned back into the medium I had loved. In fact it went far beyond that, virtually turning from black-and-white into color. Not only could I work directly with sound itself again, like painters and authors do on their works, instead of indirectly encapsulating them in abstract sets of instructions to others in an imperfect notational language, but also, I was able at last to represent the tenuous and vague sonic shapes that formed in my imagination and in which my inner emotions had always taken previously inexpressible form."

Laurie SPIEGEL is one of the computer generated music pionneers of the late 70's. She's done amazing pieces and still does. In fact, she actually does much more than music, if you want to try to get some bits of this :
1984 interview here : http://www.youtube.com/musicmouse
